Money rules change often: tax rates, super caps, thresholds, grants and interest rates all move. This page explains how we try to keep every guide accurate, and what you can do if you spot something wrong.
Where the numbers come from
We take rules and figures from official sources first: the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), Moneysmart and ASIC, the Reserve Bank of Australia, APRA, Services Australia, Treasury and the Budget papers, state revenue offices, the ACCC and ACMA, and the Australian Energy Regulator. Each article lists its main sources at the bottom, with links, so you can read the original.
Where an official page could not be opened or confirmed, we either use a clearly named secondary source or leave the claim out. We do not rely on forum posts, comparison-site marketing or unsourced statistics.
How each article is dated
- Every article shows a “last reviewed” date, and time-sensitive figures say which date they are correct as at.
- Rates, thresholds and caps are re-checked at least each quarter, and again after a Federal Budget, an RBA decision or a change in law that affects them.
- Where a rule has been announced but has not started yet (for example, changes from 1 July 2027), the article says so and gives the start date.
Examples, charts and calculators
- Dollar examples are labelled hypothetical unless they come from an official source, in which case we say whose example it is.
- Each chart uses numbers that appear in its own article. Figures we calculated ourselves (for example, a percentage worked out from two published totals) are labelled as our calculation.
- Calculators run in your browser using the rules described in the matching article. Where a calculator simplifies a rule, it lists what it leaves out. They give estimates, not quotes.
- Rates of return in examples are assumptions, not forecasts. Returns are not guaranteed and can be negative.
What we do not do
- We do not give personal financial, tax or legal advice. Everything here is general information. See the disclaimer.
- We do not accept payment from any provider to be mentioned, ranked or recommended in these guides.
- We do not recommend a specific product, fund or provider as the right choice for you.
Found a mistake?
Please tell us. Email [email protected] with the article and the figure you think is wrong, ideally with a link to the official source. Our process is described on the corrections page.
Who writes the guides
The guides are written by Dr KH Asadul. See the About page for background. The author is not a licensed financial adviser, which is why every guide points you to official sources and, where relevant, to a registered tax agent or licensed adviser.
